RFCS Gippsland Helping Farmers with the Red Cross & Lions Club Drought Appeals

East Gippsland farmers have expressed gratitude as more than half a million dollars has been successfully distributed to drought-affected families across Eastern Victoria during the Christmas period.

Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS) Gippsland teamed up with the Red Cross who donated $500,000 from their Aussie Farmer Appeal, and Lions Club of Heyfield contributed a further $43,000 helping with the cost of living for 180 households.

Funding to Improve Business Viability in Drought-Affected Gippsland

Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS) Gippsland is pleased to welcome funding from the Victorian Government, and the Financial Counselling Foundation (FCF), together with the ANZ Bank to support and strengthen small rural businesses in the drought-affected areas of Gippsland.

The additional funding will enable RFCS Gippsland to expand services and provide free professional assistance to rural businesses also experiencing financial hardship, while continuing to assist farmers.

Financial Counsellor Welcome Return

We are pleased to welcome back Peter Pauwels, our Rural Financial Counsellor servicing East and West Gippsland regions. Peter has been a Rural Financial Counsellor for over 8 years in both Victoria and Queensland.

With extensive business consulting experiences, nationally and internationally, Peter brings significant exposure and working knowledge of a variety of rural businesses and product supply enterprises, with particular understanding of the challenges and opportunities within cattle, sheep, and deer products; as well as cow and goat dairy.  He brings knowledge in land conversion, as well as a vast understanding of production systems within grain and pulse; red meat; wool; fibre and horticulture.

Support for Rural Businesses

We are now extending our services to non-agricultral rural small businesses throughout the drought affected areas of Gippsland thanks to funding recently announced by the State Government.

An additional Financial Counsellor will be appointed shortly to commence engagement with business owners to provide immediate assistance and help plan a path forward to build long-term resilience.

2 New Counsellors appointed

We are pleased to announce the appointment of 2 new Financial Counsellors to the Gippsland team.

Christos Iliopoulos and Sarah Bardsley.

Christos will be based in Maffra, servicing the whole Gippsland region 3 days per week.  He brings extensive experience in commerce; local government; community health and education, and a significant background in business management, consulting, teaching, disability support and farmer assistance.

Sarah will be based in Ellinbank and Maffra, servicing the whole of Gippsland 2 days per week.  She bringing extensive experience in the dairy industry;  business management and has working knowledge of issues directly impacting our rural communities, developing the Heyfield Financial Counselling Community Outreach Program.

New Board member for RFCSV-G

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Clare Adams to our Board.

Clare is a resident of Sale and brings extensive experience within financial services, banking and employment industries, as well as board appointments within the education and aged care sectors.  Clare has specific expertise in finance and audit.
Clare is highly involved in her community, and is currently appointed as a Victorian State Bail Justice.

We would also like to thank outgoing Board Member, Chris Trotman for her five years of instrumental service to RFCSV-G.

Thank You Lions Club & Need for Feed

The annual Lions Club Need for Feed Hay Run was held on Australia Day, assisting farmers in East Gippsland with Fodder, Food Hampers, Pet Food and Fuel Vouchers.
Our team was on the ground assisting our farming families receive some much needed relief.

We sincerely thank the Lions Group with Aussie Helpers and Drought Angels, as well as all the selfless volunteers for their outstanding efforts to deliver this valued initiative.
