DESCRIPTION:At the August meeting of the Bairnsdale Discussion Group we are talking all things silage! \nJoin us at the Lindenow Pub where Frank Mickan will be sharing his vast knowledge of fodder conservation and storage. We will be discussing the most important aspects of silage making as well as exploring alternative storage methods. \nFrank has many years of experience in silage production extension activities\, having worked for the Department of Agriculture for nearly 50 years before retiring in 2019. During this time\, Frank has undertaken many roles and projects including being the Victorian Silage Conservation Specialist\, Pasture Specialist\, State Leader of the Soils and Fertiliser program\, Regional Leader of the Dairy Extension Centre subprogram and Leader of the Statewide Adaptive Forages Project. He has also been involved in the ‘Target 10’ program\, was involved in the development and implementation of the Top Fodder Silage National Learning Package and has presented the Feeding Pasture for Profit program across Gippsland. \nThis is a special opportunity to hear from one of Gippsland’s most knowledgeable and experienced silage production extension specialists. DESCRIPTION:The 2021 Gippsland Redmeat Conference will replace the East Gippsland Beef Conference and will be organised and delivered by Gippsland Agricultural Group (GAgG) with the support of Agriculture Victoria.
