SUMMARY:Farmers Lunch: HALT Save Your Bacon BBQ - Inverloch
DESCRIPTION: A community movement to support our men and women in the farming industry. An event to remind farmers they are valued by the community\, and helping them to link into support services\, for themselves and for their mates.  \nHALT was born with the support of a concerned community and went on to host the first ‘SAVE YOUR BACON’ Brekky in Castlemaine\, November 2013\, for those in the building industry.  \nWe know that social connection is always good for our mental health\, but it is the HALT bags that carry the important message to take home. Each bag contains information on mental health\, well-being and suicide prevention. There is information on how to manage stress\, depression and anxiety and importantly\, where to go when you or a mate needs help. Material comes from local health services\, as well as bigger national organisations such as Beyond Blue and Lifeline. HALT are not counsellors\, but rather\, a connection between our farmers and the services that can help. Our role is to help facilitate the spread of information already available.  \nThe ‘SAVE YOUR BACON’ brekkies have travelled across Victoria\, New South Wales\, Queensland\, South Australia and Western Australia. At last count\, HALT had held over 200 ‘Save your Bacon’ events in hardware stores\, TAFEs\, sporting clubs\, secondary colleges\, Men’s Sheds\, the farming and mining communities\, corporations and private businesses.  \nDownload Invitation

SUMMARY:Screening of HAPPY SAD MAN - Bairnsdale
DESCRIPTION:Look Over The Farm Gate is inviting people to a complimentary screening of HAPPY SAD MAN – a charming and uplifting documentary providing insight into the lives of five very different Australian men.\nFollowed by an engaging discussion lead by the National Centre of Farmer Health.\nFollowing her smash hit I AM ELEVEN\, Australian filmmaker Genevieve Bailey was inspired to find more diverse and positive portrayals of men exploring their emotional selves. We journey from Bondi Beach to the outback; we laugh and cry alongside a war photographer traversing global conflict zones\, we visit a farmer and outreach worker from rural Victoria\, a musical nomad and a sensitive dog-loving artist. Each portrait is an intimate and heartwarming look into vulnerability\, friendship and compassion. \nHAPPY SAD MAN gives unforgettable voice to the complex emotional landscapes we can all traverse. Touching\, funny and tender\, this must-see documentary is set to shine a light on and change the dialogue around masculinity and mental health today. Exploring hopes\, anxieties\, joy and darkness the raw vulnerability of these stories will inspire you to hold some of the men in your life that bit closer.
